
This exhibition presents a large selection of artworks by Alasdair Gray owned by Glasgow Museums. It begins with printed illustrations relating to Grays most famous novel, Lanark: a Life in Four Books. The main section of this exhibition focuses on the City Recorder series, a large body of work that Gray created as an artist recorder for the City of Glasgow in 1977. It includes paintings, drawings and collages and forms a unique portrait of the city at that time.
Artist and writer Alasdair Gray lives and works in Glasgow. Since attending the Glasgow School of Art in the mid 1950s he has been a prolific poet, playwright, novelist, painter and printmaker. His work has been celebrated in books, exhibitions, public commissions and festivals.
