American Treasures presents a selection of significant and noteworthy examples of American art and artists from the nineteenth to the late twentieth centuries. On loan from the Butler Institute of American Art, the collection showcases two centuries of American art and the many styles and genres found therein. The exhibition comprises 36 works representing a virtual who’s who of American masters: Milton Avery , Cecilia Beaux , George Bellows, Frank Weston Benson, Albert Bierstadt , Charles Ephraim Burchfield. The Butler Institute of American Art, located in Youngstown, Ohio, opened in 1919 as the first museum dedicated exclusively to American art. It is recognized nationally and internationally as one of America’s finest art museums, with holdings now exceeding 20,000 individual works, including important masterpieces spanning four centuries.
