Since its inauguration in 1997, the Heinz and Marianne Ebers Foundation has dedicated itself to building up an international collection of modern and contemporary post-war art. The story behind the founding of this special collection is closely entwined with the exhibition programme at Kunstmuseen Krefeld. Works from current productions on the German art scene, such as for instance by Karin Kneffel, Stefan Kürten or Anton Henning , have made their way into the collection alongside important pieces by such influential artists as Richard Artschwager or John Wesley . Typical of the philosophy behind the collection is a juxtaposition between American and European approaches. Always at the centre of focus is painting, while works from the areas sculpture, photography and video give a broad basis to the concept behind the collection. Common to the works across all these genres is a figural, narrative language that presents the viewer with a wide variety of social, historical and political contexts.
The collection of the Heinz and Marianne Ebers Foundation, which forms an ideal compliment to the museum's holdings, has grown in the meantime to include around 60 artworks. Now for the first time Kunstmuseen Krefeld will present a representative cross-section of around 35 works in a special show that underscores the great quality of the collection. Included are works by Richard Artschwager , Anton Henning , Bethan Huws , Richard Allen Morris , Stephen Shore , Kiki Smith and John Wesley , among others.
