I Wish This Was A Song. Music in Contemporary Art
Ragnar Kjartansson: The End - Rocky Mountains, 2009. Five channel HD video installation. Production photo: Laura Vanags. Courtesy of the artist, Luhring Augustine, New York and i8 Gallery, Reykjavik.

In recent years no other genre has found as much resonance in contemporary art as music. Many visual artists are musicians as well, while for others the immediacy of music is a long standing desire which becomes incorporated in their work.

I wish this was a song includes works by around 35 artists in all media, such as painting, sculpture, video, sound installation and photography, and focuses mainly on a younger generation of artists with works from the late 1990s to 2012. The exhibition shows how music and visual arts can be married into a unique artistic vocabulary of compositional coherence and integrity and the field of music dealt with ranges from classical to rock, pop and independent.
