Robert Gober

 In 1995, the eminent American artist Robert Gober (b. 1954, lives in New York) created the spectacular installation Split Wall with Drains specifically for the ground-floor space at the Museum für Gegenwartskunst. The work was then acquired by the Öffentliche Kunstsammlung Basel and will now be reassembled for the first time in order to constitute the center of a solo show of the artist's oeuvre focused on the large group of works the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation has collected over the years. After the large survey exhibition held at the Schaulager in 2007, this show will present sculptures, room installations, and drawings- replicas of domestic objects such as sinks, fireplaces, and drains as well as effigies of individual body parts imbued with psychological, political, and religious connotations.
