Several years' residence and engagement in London's cultural scene and other experience in the arts in New York and Paris led Anna Bolte and Chaja Lang to establish BolteLang, with the intention of bringing young international artists to Zurich, their home town. As well as this international line of communication, the gallerists' open their space to a wide audience through events and talks by artists, critics and other speakers who can stimulate interesting discussions around contemporary art. The exhibition space close to the Löwenbräuareal, which opened in January 2008, allows the display of a variety of works including projections, performances and works in progress.

Throughout the first year of BolteLang's existence the gallery programme has been very open, indeed the only format proscribed by the gallerists to themselves and to the artists they work with was the recurrent trope of the two-person show. Within this framework the aesthetic and mission of the gallery was able to develop organically: the often previously unacquainted artists were at liberty to decide how to use the space, by either realising a joint exhibition or treating the main gallery and the gallery's project space as only nominally related environments.

In 2009 BolteLang started its gallery programme proper and now represents several artists. To ensure the gallery remains a dynamic space the gallery invites other artists to participate in exhibitions and a curator or project space to curate a show, organises events, film nights, work shops and discussions. BolteLang's project space The Corridor is a space for new commissions, site-specific installations and exhibitions. It is a space with restricted dimensions, related to the main gallery only geographically and therefore completely open to experimentation.
