Gagosian Gallery, which operates the world's farthest-reaching network of commercial exhibition spaces, has announced that work has been completed on its Richard Meier -designed expansion to its Beverly Hills branch.
The new construction adds 5,000 square feet of space to the existing 6,600-square-foot building. A total of 3,000 square feet will be used for exhibitions at street level. The addition also includes a rooftop terrace that the gallery says it plans to use for outdoor installations.
The official opening of the new space is set for March 4, when the gallery will debut an exhibition of work by photographer Andreas Gursky, whose 99 Cent II Diptychon, 2001, holds the record for the most expensive photograph ever sold. It earned $3.3 million at Sotheby's London in Feb. 2007. Gursky is still listed as being represented by Matthew Marks.
