ProfilInaugurated in November 2004, Galeria Leme explores and realizes new ideas and experiments in contemporary art and has, since its inception, maintained an international outlook. The building, designed by the architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha specifically to serve as an art gallery, is made entirely from bare concrete, and has 420m² of available space incorporating a 9m high skylight. Galeria Leme represents Brazilian and international artists, with an emphasis on Latin Americans. These artists work with a variety of media: photography, painting, installation, sculpture, video, projection, and site-specific work, among others. One of the gallery's main concerns is to promote diversity in art, as well as an intense cultural exchange. Since September 2006, a project room across the street has been available for artists in residence. This annex functions both as a studio and an exhibition space, giving the public the opportunity to see works in progress. Künstler der Galerie bzw der Sammlung |
