GALERIE8 is a contemporary art gallery and social space scheduled to open Spring 2011 in the Arthaus building of London Fields. Focusing on site-specific installations and emerging international artists, GALERIE8 presents innovative programmes that explore the art object's relation to space, theatricality, history and philosophy. Not limited to an exhibition platform, the gallery also provides a multi-use artistic venue and community forum based on art and sociocultural discussions.

The main space of GALERIE8 is a 250 square meters atrium centered below six surrounding floors of residential and commercial units. Conceptualized as a space of transition, the atrium allows for natural light and grand, site-specific installations within the Arthaus building, which also includes a café to allow for reflection and refreshment, and a literary resource center for further exploration.

GALERIE8 is accompanied by a web-based magazine as an invitation to look closer - or take a second look - at how the exhibition, and our individual or collective experiences can be re-imagined. The magazine will also explore the vibrant artistic landscape in and around East London.
