Profil

The JGM Galerie was created in 1988 and has immediately focused on sculpture.
During the first ten years the gallery gave priority to major artists of the "Nouveau Realisme" like Niki de Saint Phalle , Jean Tinguely , Takis and Jean-Pierre Raynaud. At the same time, the gallery presented retrospective exhibitions of Agustin Cardenas and Hiquily or group exhibitions like "The Sculpture and the Drawings" with works of Giacometti, Picasso, Rodin, Tinguely, or for example the exhibition "Irons" that illustrates the use of this material by the greatest artists like Gargallo, Chillida, Plensa or Stankiewicz. The JGM Galerie has initiated numerous exhibitions of sculptures in France and abroad such as Niki de Saint Phalle (with the support of AFAA at that time) in the major museums of the capitals of South America and at Luxembourg, the exhibition "Alter Ego" about women artists (Louise Bourgeois, Sophie Calle, Sherrie Levine…) and more recently the exhibition Keith Haring (2007) at the Fondation Independence. In Asia, especially in Taiwan, the JGM Galerie, by ordering important sculptures, worked closely with Soto, Marta Pan , Takis, Pol Bury, and Tony Cragg, whose works are still installed in the city and in contact with the public.
Recently, the JGM Galerie has decided to find a new dynamic by engaging artists, who are on the one hand in line with its history like Laurie Simmons (scheduled for November 2010 with new works never seen before), Keith Sonnier (current exhibition with historical display) or Anne and Patrick Poirier, or at the other hand define the new directions of the gallery, in order to take part more strongly in the actual time and expand its borders from the Balkans to China.
Thus, Jean-François Four tou joined in 2007 the gallery that wishes to support young French artists, he will exhibit in October 2010. In addition, thanks to Ami Barak, curator and artistic adviser, the Romanian artist Ion Grigorescu was exhibited in 2008, furthermore the Albanian Edi Hila in January 2009 and an exhibition of Peter Kogler , an Austrian artist, was exhibited in October 2009. Fred Wilson , one of the most influential Afro-American artists of his generation, was also exhibited in January 2010.
Since 2007, with the opening of its office of representation in Shanghai, the gallery confirms its choice of Chinese artists and its interest for new talents in Asia like Lin Tianmiao , Zheng Guogu , as well as Sui Jianguo.
The desire to remain encouraged by our time, its artists and its challenges, the interest in different cultures and different ways of expression engage us to constantly renew our habits to ensure a future artistic policy.
