Profil

Nils Stærk was established in 1997. Together with two other galleries Nils Stærk moved into the warehouse district of Copenhagen named Islands Brygge, and shortly afterwards the Islands Brygge Galleries became a phenomenon in Danish and Scandinavian art life.
Now, ten year after, Nils Stærk has moved to a new district: Carlsberg - previously used by Carlsberg breweries, and Nils Stærk has been one of the primary persons in developing one of Copenhagen's new and most important art venues Ny Carlsberg Vej 68.
Ny Carlsberg Vej 68 is the new centre for art and culture in Copenhagen. Consisting of five exhibition sites, it is the largest building dedicated to contemporary art to open in Copenhagen in recent times.
The combination of established, international galleries alongside galleries run by artist is unique and we believe it will be of great significance for the Danish and international art scene.
The new gallery space, which is app. 500m2, opened September 3 2009.

Nils Stærk's new gallery include 150m2 exhibition space in which the gallery will present six annual exhibitions. In addition to this the gallery includes a second and smaller exhibition room for monthly exhibition projects and presentations as well as a large office space, showroom and storage.

Nils Stærk Contemporary Art presents established and emerging international artists with a specific focus on a range of Scandinavian artists of importance to the Danish and Scandinavian art scene.
The gallery focus on representing the artists internationally, hence establishing strong relationships with international collectors, both private and public. In Denmark and Scandinavia the interest, and thus the market, for contemporary art has had a remarkable growth within recent years. Nils Stærk Contemporary Art therefore has put high priority in developing and consulting new collectors in Scandinavia and the Nordic region.
The exhibition program of Nils Stærk Contemporary Art consists of six to seven presentations a year, primarily one-person exhibitions as well as occasionally curated group exhibitions and larger projects including externall collaborators and venues. The gallery works closely with other galleries and museum institutions on exhibitions and projects to represent the artists, Scandinavian and international, abroad as well as domestic.
