Sikkema Jenkins & Co. is a contemporary art gallery located in the Chelsea district of New York that exhibits work in a variety of media including painting, drawing, installation, photography and sculpture. Artis ts represented by the gallery include Mark Bradford , Arturo Herrera , Vik Muniz , Amy Sillman , Janaina Tschape, and Kara Walker . Aside from its represented artists the gallery has collaborated directly on exhibitions and projects with artists such as Alex Katz, Yinka Shonibare and Francis Alÿs. The gallery also publishes books, prints and editions, collaborating with gallery and other artists including Burt Barr , Francis Cape, Glenn Ligon, and Shahzia Sikander .
Sikkema Jenkins & Co. works with numerous clients and institutions in the U.S., as well as South America and Europe. Many gallery artists have national and international careers and regularly participate in museum and international exhibitions. The gallery has participated in numerous art fairs, including Art Basel, The Armory Show, Art Chicago , Art Basel Miami, Frieze Art Fair , London and The Art Show, New York (ADAA). The gallery is a member of the Art Dealers Association of America.
In summer 2005 Sikkema Jenkins & Co. underwent an extensive renovation to expand its physical gallery space. As a result, the gallery has increased in size to 12,000 square feet, adding additional office, viewing, exhibition and storage spaces.
Brent Sikkema began his gallery work in 1971 as Director of Exhibitions at the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, NY. He opened his first gallery in 1976 in Boston, MA, specializing in photography. In 1991, after moving to New York, Sikkema opened a contemporary gallery on Wooster Street in SoHo called Wooster Gardens. Michael Jenkins worked on several projects beginning in 1991, and in 1996 joined Brent Sikkema as director. He became Senior Partner in 2003. After joining forces and in conjunction with the renovation, Brent Sikkema Gallery became Sikkema Jenkins & Co. Meg Malloy, joined the gallery as a partner in 2002.
