Profil

The collection can be perceived as a long-term constant survey into the "state of the art" of the time. It has developed together with its artists. Pieces from emerging talents co-exist with source works of the established artists by whom they were influenced.

Andy Warhol is a very clear starting point of the collection. Being one of the most important artists of the second half of the twentieth century, he has had a strong influence on artists in every following generation. Warhol's undeniable influence is thus present throughout the whole collection. Next to Warhol himself, a generous overview of the so-called "Post-Warholians" -such as Cindy Sherman , Barbara Kruger , Jenny Holzer or Allan McCollum - is represented.

The array of works of Pop art comprises not only its Western incarnation, but its Japanese counterpart as well, with pieces from Yoshitomo Nara , Takashi Murakami and Chiho Aoshima amongst others.

Bruce Nauman became the next significant corner stone of the collection. Of the works acquired during the 1980s, Nauman's pieces occupy a large part, next to those of Christopher Wool , John Baldessari and Jeff Koons .

Over the years, numerous pieces by artists such as Christian Boltanski , Franz West and Paul McCarthy - some of which are key works in their careers - were brought into the collection.

Younger generations of artists include Matthew Barney , Ugo Rondinone , Tom Sachs and Thomas Demand , all of whom helped shape the late nineties and the contemporary discourse up until today.
