Adriana Varejão uses painting as a support for historical fiction and the exploration of themes such as theatricality, desire and artifice within the Baroque. In her threedimensional works, ruptures in the canvas reveal a bloody, visceral interior, formed by sculptural or architectural elements. Recently, she has developed geometrized virtual environments recalling saunas, pools and bathrooms in which she reinvestigates issues intrinsic to painting, such as depth, space and color.
