| Since 1968, Abramovic has been doing performances which seek out the line between the limits of the physical body and the individual potential of the human spirit, and has been highly-praised in the art world.Beginning in 1975, Abramovic worked together with German artist Ulay on several performance pieces. After the two parted ways, she continued on with solo performances as well as vigorously pouring energy into making objects which intertwine the physical and spiritual worlds. Abramovic was born in Belgrade in the former Yugoslavia and her works strongly relate to this Balkan areas bloody history. Her performances challenge to reach the limits of the body and pose the question Â"What exactly does it mean to be human?Â" in a straightforward manner.
