Allan Kaprow

Reports of Allan Kaprow:

The American Allan Kaprow (1927-2006) is regarded as the founder of the happenings and as one of the most progressive artists of the 20th Century. For a younger generation of artists, in particular with happenings and performance art apart, is an essential reference Kaprov figure. With the work "18 Happenings in 6 parts" Kaprov completed in 1959 as the first artist the transition to event as a performative art form, none of the artificial or museum environment took longer, but in everyday life was located. Not a passive spectator, but active participation was required. The participants acted based on scores - guidance which Kaprov times poetic, sometimes detailed descriptive wrote. The impermanence is a fundamental property of the happenings. Therefore, the scores next to photographs, film footage and descriptions of participants of the few tracks that work today by Kaprows obtain. However, it is the intention of the artist that his work not as mere documentation continues, but in the form of new versions will be experienced. The focus of the review is therefore on the interactive aspect of Kaprows works: Happenings and Environments are known in conjunction with the exhibition re-realized.
