| Vietnam, 1967, near Duc Pho (reconstruction after Hiromichi mine) - this is the sober title of one of the most spectacular video works of Belgian artist David Claerbout (* 1969 in Kortrijk). The widespread production holds an airplane, which is 1967 in Vietnam on an American air base will be shot down. In a subtle transformation process Claerbout translated the original photo into a moving video sequence by using the animated picture, while a shift in perception causes of war away from the event towards the changes of light, from the history screen for landscape display. The survey of the image at the same time leads to a fundamental reflection on the media, can be found in the digital age, such as film photography to ultimately reduce the amount of data. So Claerbout staged a sensual and at the same time complex dialogue between the media by giving the plant its shape and reflect the specific media as an artistic potential limitations disclose. In recent years, Claerbout work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in major institutions around the world to see. The exhibition at the Kunstmuseum St.Gallen, developed in close collaboration with the artist, is his first major solo exhibition in a Swiss museum.
