| The painting is approaching Morellet as a self-taught, then studied with a painter. It initially produces landscapes, pasty and dull colors. Furthermore, it still lifes and portraits and then painting with stylized image parameters. From 1950, François Morellet, describes itself as "an abstract painter." The mid-50s is dedicated to the artist with the design of the image field as a tends to infinity, the limits of the image reaching beyond structure. Morellet includes the technique of all-over a Jackson Pollock for himself, because he works in advance every established principles and systems, a basis. Basically the method interested him more than the visual end result. From the year 1968 begins François Morellet also for the architecture and the area of interest. In 1992 François Morellet summarizes the work "Relâche n ° 1" to work together by giving all previously-used materials from the painted canvas on neon tubes to the adhesive and metal band - and this is used according to the laws of chance in an artfully designed chaos brings. By Morellet provocative attitude and his humor are his works of the Dadaists closer than those of geometric abstraction and Low Art (Ketterer, Munich).
