| George Grosz (July 26, 1893 Georg Ehrenfried Groß in Berlin, July 6, 1959) was a German-American painter, graphic artist and caricaturist. With George Grosz are mainly attributed to his New Objectivity, social or socio paintings and drawings associated, which arose mainly in the 1920s and through some very dramatic and provocative images, and often characterized by political statements. Typical subjects are the big city, its remoteness (murder, perversion, violence), and class differences, differences that are in it. Compared to similar images of Otto Dix, Grosz from this period is usually the more aggressive and more political. In his works, often caricatures, he derided the ruling circles of the Weimar Republic, draws on social conflicts and criticized in particular economic, political, military and clergy.
