| Hans Op de Beeck, born 1969 in Turnhout, Belgium, examines in his installations the relationship of the viewer to the object. He simulates situations that occur to be very well known the viewer, and with whom he identifies himself. This simulations inevitably draw the question of how to handle time, space and the dealing with each other. Op de Beeck became known for "Location 1" (1998), the model of a night crossing, whose only possible characteristic of human existence is the flashing of the light. The work stands in a darkened room on a table. "Location 1" represents the beginning of a series of works that have grown to six locations. "Location 5" (2004) and "Location 6" (2008) are accessible worlds with several hundred square meters of space - a further development of the intensity of experience compared to "Location 1. In "Extension 1" to "Extension 3" (all 2007), Op de Beeck offers the viewer a piece of simulated reality. Facilities including the human enhancing features (an operating room, a computer room, a suitcase, waiting room), interact with the experiences of the observer. He is again playing with fictitious spaces which ask the question of how real the identification of the viewer with scenes probably can be.
