| What is art? Or what should be art? To these questions turns the work of American artist Joseph Kosuth. He answers only in the language. His text "Art after Philosophy" influenced the conceptual art of the seventies essential. As a philosopher tries Kosuth the topic of "art" to investigate rationally. One of his studies devoted to the 1965 linguistic and pictorial dealing with reality "One and three chairs": He presented a chair in the exhibition, plus he hung a photograph of the chair and the definition of the object from a dictionary. Thus, he went over the statement made by Gertude Stein also: A rose is a rose is a rose. Kosuth was first in the pop art style worked, so he employed the relation of subject and presentation. But he wanted the mediation of his thoughts without images should get. Therefore, he retired back to the language. He hung Lexicon extracts on the walls, with the texts printed in black on white, not near the pop art to come. In the installation "FIVE WORDS IN RED NEON" hung Kosuth these words just as red Neonröhrenschrift on the wall.
