The psychological confrontation with space and body, the uncanny and the unease that is deficient and the irrational depths of the individual and collective existence are the themes of the work of Markus Schinwald. Playfully merge in his work a variety of media - from movies to oppressive puppet sculptures liable, revised from historical paintings to prosthetic design and clothing designs - which are subtly interconnected choreographed. As the source and observation point serves Schinwald the human body in its inadequacy and eeriness. In Schinwald work the body respond to its symptomatic internal states and reflect the external experience in the pose. The scenarios, developed Schinwald follow no linear narrative with a beginning and an end, but circulate obsessive and repetitive to a substantive middle. At first glance, in its minimal staging kept cool movies, pictures and sculptures condense it into a complex impact structure with a multitude of possibilities and allows for stories that emerged from our collective memory dine. They abduct the viewer into a self-supporting cosmos, in an eerie, surreal system where borders will be normative for the enigmatic and beautiful. (Migros Museum, Zurich)
