| The work of Sigmar Polke is the (Un-) possibilities of photography and painting dedicated. He himself was in 1941 in Oels (Poland) was born and now lives and works in Cologne (Germany). A deep doubt that a picture really shows or can show, whether painted or photographed, pervades his work. Again and again he gives the formal photography's inherent characteristics such as the arbitrariness of the section and motif or errors in the development process in the darkroom can arise in the painting. Often, he uses also colorfully printed fabrics as a basic picture. In this playful approach with the technical characteristics of the two genera and the recognition of the possibility of the artistic potential of technical errors, but also a profound seriousness. Despite the ostensibly so ironic nature of his works, he wants to transmit messages. Too often this leads us only the picture name in which the image object in a different context is brought. In recent years, Polke work in the formation process and the experiment with unconventional techniques are becoming increasingly important. So, among other things, he uses old pigments, paints and chemicals, as they usually are applied in a dark room, on his canvases and developed with them in the painting in its own language and new images. © ArtLogistics |
