| Sol LeWitt works are among the most widespread and influential of recent art history. In addition to his installations, objects and furniture, it is the huge mural in Hanover, Vienna, Graz and of course many American homes that are in the memory of Modern Art have burnt into. Geometric shapes in all variations durchwirken image areas, mostly in the colors yellow, red, blue and gray. Lattice structures arrange many compositions; cubes and diamonds appear repeatedly, but always in the new arrangement. Only recently, turn to the contours of his objects and swing to the sky in an almost organic forms.
The pragmatism and the unerring eye of the designer LeWitt always be preserved. Perhaps he was only recently properly appreciated: that of young artists such as Jonathan Monk, the "ridiculously simple", ie in the best sense of playful, to rediscover the old masters. And so his sentence seriously: "conceptual artists are mystics rather than rationalists." Sol LeWitt died in 2007 in New York at the age of 78 years in a cancer. (Kia Vahland, Süddeutsche Zeitung) |
