While his previous film installations gained sculptural quality, he developed his recent exhibitions always as independent works of art, often single lock objects and works of other artists. De Rooij thus operates within the meaning of the so-called appropriation art by which deliberately existing things or art aneeignet and made it a part of his own artistic work. So also at the 18th from September 2010 sighted installation "Intolerance". This can be considered as a three-dimensional collage, a group of paintings by Dutch painter Melchior d'Hondecoeter (1636-1695) with a group of Hawaiian ceremonial objects from the 18th Century faced. This comparison offers the viewer the most interesting associations and is also as a visual examination of the triangular relationship between early global trade, conflict and mutual attraction to understand.
