With van Gogh, Cézanne and Gauguin, Edgar Degas (18341917) is considered one of the major pioneers of modern art. Yet Degas exhibitions are a rare occurrence. After leaving Impressionism behind in about 1880, Degass art reached its undoubted culmination in his daring and unique late work. The Fondation Beyelers comprehensive show includes his renowned depictions of dancers, female nudes, jockeys and landscapes. It comprises about 100 paintings, pastels, sculptures, drawings and photographs from public and private collections around the world.
