In cooperation with the Berliner Kupferstichkabinett the MdM SALZBURG will present a survey of rarely displayed works on paper by Emil Nolde (1867 1956) in autumn/winter 2011/12; these works fascinate with their profound themes and brilliant technical execution and testify to the artists strong influence on the artist group Die Brücke(The Bridge). Nolde is one of the foremost German artists of the 20th century and one of the leading representatives of Expressionism. The Kupferstichkabinett Berlin owns one of the oldest and most comprehensive museum collections of worksby Nolde, comprising approx. 100 works (watercolours and a selection of important graphics, including etchings, lithographs and wood engravings), surpassed only by the Nolde Foundation in Seebüll, which manages the artists estate, and the Sprengel Museum Hannover , which owns a large collection of his graphic prints. The exhibition is complemented by some of the artists paintings and sculptures as well as oceanic artefacts.
