Profile

The contemporary art gallery Art & Public was founded in 1984 by Pierre HUBER under his own name. In the early years the gallery focused on minimal and conceptual artists from the 1960s and 1970s, namely Robert Barry, On Kawara, Sol LeWitt and others while remaining interested in contemporary art.

After exhibiting a few young artists (Steven Parrino, Steve di Benedetto) and several forays into photography (Cindy Sherman, Nan Goldin, Paul McCarthy, Larry Clark Nan Goldin, Yasumasa Morimura), the gallery produced exhibitions featuring Sylvie Fleury, Mariko Mori, Nam June Paik and also John Armleder, Olivier Mosset, Fischli & Weiss, John McCracken under a new name: Art & Public (since 1992).

Today the gallery aims to advise clients wishing to develop their collection while also helping them to start new collections corresponding to their tastes and the current art market. The gallery's openness to the Asian market is the present program's greatest strength which has been enhanced by numerous Asian artists, among them famous and young and promising talents ( Subodh Gupta, Zhou Tiehai, Gu Dexin, Qiu Xiaofei, Chen Shaoxiong, Lin Tianmiao, Lu Hao, Rashid Rana, Nataraj Sharma ).
