ProfileThyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary is pleased to announce the institutional collaboration with the Belvedere at the Augarten for a renewable period of four years. The aim of the collaboration with the Belvedere is to engage in shared cultural activities, to spark the appreciation of contemporary art in Vienna and within an international context. TBA21 proposes a model for a mutually beneficial partnership between a public museum and a private foundation. TBA21 celebrates this exciting initiative and ambitious new program following the foundation's relocation to the new premises with a grand opening at Vienna's Augarten Park on May 29 and a Summer Party on June 1. These events will kick off TBA21's new exhibition and performance season. Subsequently, the Augarten turns into being a site of many changes as TBA21 infuses it with creativity, dialogue, design, entertainment and hospitality. For a renewable period of four years, the Augarten studios will be TBA21's institutional laboratory and exhibition space. Set in a lush corner of the Augarten Park, the premises were designed as an artist's studio in the 1950s to accommodate the workshop, home, and museum of the Austrian sculptor Gustinus Ambrosi. This location - and its history in all its ambivalences - lends itself to the presentation of large-scale three-dimensional works. Subtly restyled, the space fosters an atmosphere of intimacy and working ambience. TBA21 proposes to critically reconsider the history of the studio and its former inhabitant by dedicating its programming at Augarten primarily to presentations focusing on the production of a single artist - at times in dialogue with other artistic positions - and by establishing a lively public discussion addressed to a broad audience. Based on further research and experimentation, exhibitions are drawn from the foundation's extensive and internationally celebrated collection. Artists are invited to select materials from their individual archives of works, documents, and ephemera and to devise presentations that possibly reveal gaps and reiterations or create resonances between artworks. These productions reactivate the archive but also allow artists to engage in new projects exemplifying TBA21's favorite working methodology: the commissioning process. Committed to a long-standing engagement with performative practices, TBA21 has developed a series of provocative performances, will initiate collaborative projects and stage a stimulating lecture program, starting with the inaugural season of Ephemeropteraea on June 1. This complements its exhibition program, setting the stage for TBA21's commitment to interdisciplinary practice. It is intended to develop a relationship with our audience, whether local or international, in this wonderfully attractive location. This is the spirit of TBA21, and Augarten will become its hub. represented artistsExhibitions
