Profile

CAC Málaga's permanent collection is formed by a selection of works that gradually increases in number, partly as a result of Malaga City Council's acquisition policy and partly thanks to loans from private collectors, who allow the centre to show pieces for certain periods of time. This combination follows a model that has long operated successfully at other major art centres all over the world.

The works

The body of works that form the collection today comprises a journey through the different artistic movements and trends that characterise the 20th century, with particular attention to the final decades.

The collection, then, comprises a large number of recent pieces presented in regularly-changing exhibitions that illustrate the eclectic landscape of contemporary art today.

CAC Málaga's permanent collection features works particularly from the 1950s to the present, including pieces by such internationally renowned artists as Louise Bourgeois, Art & Language, Olafur Eliasson, Thomas Hirschhorn , Damian Hirst, Julian Opie , Thomas Ruf f and Thomas Struth .

Similarly, special attention is given to Spanish art since the 1980s, including works by local artists who have helped to spread Andalusian art. The list of Spanish artists includes such outstanding names as Victoria Civera, Juan Muñoz , José María Sicilia, Miquel Barceló , Santiago Sierra and Juan Uslé .

Regarding the latest trends, we can point to works by leading Spanish and international artists whose enormous ability and capacity for innovation have made them highly influential figures on the art scene today.
