ProfileThe collection of the CGAC currently contains approximately one thousand pieces in which different artists from diverse contexts are represented, touching on diverse languages and media.
The temporary nature of the CGAC collection stems from post-1960 artistic philosophies. Since its beginnings, the principal criteria for including new pieces have been to reinforce the representation of Galician artists, aiming to strengthen the revitalizing, international impulse of Galician art since the beginning of the 1980s, to reflect the most important moments in the international artistic panorama, and to integrate pieces defined by the relationship between the artist and the space created by Álvaro Siza. These criteria have helped the CGAC to organize a collection that has its own identity and, far from being a passive instrument, integrates new pieces that are in constant movement. To this end, in addition to the exhibitions that are temporarily presented in the Center 's galleries, the CGAC also collaborates with various other institutions. In addition to its own collection, the CGAC has access to pieces in the collections of Areán, the Xunta de Galicia (Galician City Council), and the ARCO Foundation.
