IIl Castello di Rivoli, was built on the ruins of a castle of medieval exactly the eleventh century, the initial project was to Juvarra for Vittorio Amedeo II of Savoy.
It was Carlo Emanuele I, 600, wanting to build in Rivoli (where he was born) a large palace, which had worked on the project Vittozzi Ascanio, but that was actually built by Charles Castellamonte, the castle but not was never completed, was built in the central part of the building, along with the lobby and grand staircase.
Other interventions, although few and inadequate, were later executed in 1793, then in the early nineteenth century the building began to become a burden for the Savoy too big, and was leased to the town of Rivoli, which later acquired the entirely.
The castle was used as accommodation for military garrisons losing for the various military occupations and the various fire most of the furniture.
It 's just that in 1978 the building finally was able to take advantage of a massive consolidation effort, mixing the original structures with structures made of modern material.
The opening was made in 1984 with the inauguration of the Museum of Contemporary Art at the Castello di Rivoli, which has 38 rooms, and every year it hosts important events and exhibitions.
