Profile

Frank Lloyd Gallery, established in 1996, represents contemporary painting, sculpture and ceramics.  Primarily emphasizing major West Coast artists that emerged since 1950, the gallery also presents ceramic sculpture in the context of the contemporary art world.  The recently expanded exhibition program featured a show titled Sculpture from the Sixties, which included major works by Robert Irwin, Craig Kauffman , Larry Bell , as well as Ken Price , John Mason and Peter Voulkos .  Another survey exhibit presented drawings by Kauffman, Ed Moses and Bell.  During the past fourteen years, exhibition highlights have included a major historical survey of works from the early 1960s by John Mason, Ken Price and Peter Voulkos , a phenomenal installation of recent glass cubes by Larry Bell , and an extraordinarily imaginative exhibition by Adrian Saxe .  In addition to the mission of re-contextualizing the achievements of major figures in West Coast art, the gallery promotes the work of emerging and mid-career artists.  Frederick Fisher and Partners, internationally acclaimed architects, designed the gallery, located in Bergamot Station in Santa Monica.

Frank Lloyd Gallery is an important source for private collectors, and also works with museums on curatorial projects and acquisitions.  The gallery has placed over ninety works in museum collections, and gallery artists have been included in major survey exhibitions such as Los Angeles 1955-1985: Birth of an Art Capital at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and a traveling exhibition Color and Fire: Defining Moments in Studio Ceramics, 1950-2000, organized by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.  Gallery exhibitions have been reviewed in Art in America, Artforum, Los Angeles Times, and other publications.

The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  More information can be obtained by calling the gallery at (310) 264-3866.
