The Gabriele Senn Galerie opened its doors in December 2000 at Schleifmühlgasse, a new gallery quarter in Vienna. Within two short years, Schleifmühlgasse has emerged into one of the most intriguing and resourceful local showcases for contemporary art. Further serious discussion and delightful interaction between artists, admirers and collectors is guaranteed to take place since the institutions of Secession and Generali Foundation are nearby, as is the city's new museum complex, the MuseumsQuartier.
The gallery's exhibition program with examples of innovative contemporary art was opened by the show of the Austrian artist Bernhard Fruehwirth . For the younger generation of artists like Fruehwirth, Marko Lulic and Barbara Mungenst, the gallery provides easy access to insightful exchanges and networking opportunities within the complex international art scene. After all, the Austrian artists Martin Gostner and Hans Weigand are internationally recognized, the Hamburg based Akademie Isotrop was introduced in Vienna and the work of Cosima von Bonin was first shown in Austria as well. Because of this extensive networking system, progressive exhibition projects are being developed in cooperation with other galleries, institutions, museums and freelance curators throughout the world. But most importantly, spontaneous cooperative efforts between artists are taking place.
