ProfileIn 1979 after 14 years in the museum business the art historian Heinz Holtmann founded his gallery in Hannover. Holtmann then moved to Cologne with the main part of the gallery in 1980. After which he started with a brilliant exhibition of Joseph Beuys - under the artist's instruction himself! - the gallery in Hannover was continued till 1983 as a branch. After the Beuys' exhibition there followed some extensive solo exhibitions with works of the "classics" of the 60s and 70s - artists like Dieter Roth , Arnulf Rainer , Daniel Spoerri, Arman, Andy Warhol and ZERO's Heinz Mack . Cologne's scene was represented by Michael Buthe, Sigmar Polke , Jürgen Klauke , Anna and Bernhard Blume and many more. Beside all those artists the gallery engaged and cared for young german artists as well - for example Saskia Niehaus , Uta Päffgen , Valerie Krause , Flora Hitzing and Boris Becker to name but a few. The gallery's focus is on the international contemporary painting as well as international photography. 2003 an exhibition of Saskia Niehaus was the beginning of a new series of young art - for example the works by Uta Päffgen , Valerie Krause and Flora Hitzing who were pupils in the master classes of Katharina Grosse and Tony Cragg . The exhibitions of young german artists will be continued in (loose) succession. Since 1980 another area of operation of the Galerie Heinz Holtmann is the participation in international art fairs: Art Basel, Art Cologne, Fiac, Paris, Arco Madrid, Art Chicago , Art Brüssel, Art Forum Berlin , Arte Fiera Bologna , Kunst Zürich , Palmbeach, ViennAfair Among numerous catalogues Heinz Holtmann publishes "Keine Angst vor Kunst. Moderne Kunst sammeln und bewahren" (Fear no art. Collecting and saving modern art), published by Econ, Düsseldorf/Munich, 320 pages. Since 1999 also as paperback. Since 2001 Heinz Holtmann is board member of the Bundesverband deutscher Galerien (Association of german galleries) and since 2001 chairman/president of the Zentralarchiv des internationalen Kunsthandels (Central archive of the international art trade). represented artists |
