Profile

Founded in 1964, Galerie Thomas has become one of the leading galleries for works by masters of German Expressionism, Classical Modernism , post-war art, and contemporary art. For the past decade, Raimund Thomas has co-managed the gallery with his daughter Silke Thomas, an art historian by profession.

In the field of German Expressionism, Galerie Thomas has staged exhibitions featuring artists of the Blaue Reiter, such as Wassily Kandinsky , Alexej von Jawlensky, and Gabriele Münter ; the Brücke group, including Ernst Ludwig Kirchner , Karl Schmidt-Rottluff , Otto Mueller , and Emil Nolde ; and, as representatives of the Bauhaus, Lyonel Feininger and Paul Klee .

Classical Modernism has been represented by one-man shows of the artists Max Beckmann , Pablo Picasso , Edvard Munch , Max Ernst , Joan Miró, and Fernand Léger.

Exhibitions of European artists like Eduardo Chillida and Ernst Wilhelm Nay , or American artists like Fernando Botero , Louise Nevelson , Jim Dine, Sam Francis , Tom Wesselmann, and Frank Stella document the activities of the gallery in the field of post-war art.

The gallery has been participating with this program for many years at the following international art shows: Art Basel, Art Basel Miami Beach, TEFAF Maastricht, Art Dubai , Art Cologne, Cologne Fine Art.
