Both as a platform for artists of the region as well as a showcase for general trends in contemporary art, the Gallery understands the city of Tuttlingen. The exhibition tradition began in 1973 with the first initiatives of the art district Tuttlingen. Since 1987, the gallery is housed in a specially designed building for them by Gunther Hermann.

The art district and the city of Tuttlingen organized nine exhibitions per year - eight solo exhibitions of contemporary artists and the annual Christmas exhibition, which presents a cross-section of artistic creation in Tuttlingen and environment.

Supported by the Gallery is the art collection of the city of Tuttlingen.
