Profile
The Guastalla Foundation, founded by businessman Giovanni Guastalla to support the development of international artists of the latest generations, opened its headquarters in Milan, during the fall of 2004.
The historical core of the collection, composed of eleven works created by ten Italian artists already established in the international contemporary art scene, was displayed in the elegant rooms of an early 1900s building. The first expansion of the collection was hosted in the first Rome branch of the Foundation, located in the heart of the historical city centre, overlooking Via di Santa Chiara, a few steps away from the Pantheon. The portfolio offered to the public was enriched by acquisitions of both new works by artists already featured in the collection - such as Stefano Arienti , Massimo Bartolini , Vanessa Beecroft , Cristiano Pintaldi and Grazia Toderi â" and works by artists not previously featured, such as Mario Airò, Luisa Lambri , Eva Marisaldi , Daniele Puppi and Francesco Vezzoli . These acquisitions were made in order to provide a sampling of the newest and most significant personalities of the recent periods in the Italian Art scene.
From 2006 the Guastalla Foundation has expanded its collection to include international art of the last twenty years, represented by artists such as Shirin Neshat , Peter Hall ey , Candida Hofer, Shazia Shikander, Charles Avery , Julian Opie , Yan Pei Ming, Caio Reisewitz , Elger Esser , Marc Quinn , William Kentridge and many more.
On February 12th 2008, the first showroom of the foundation was inaugurated in Viale Regina Margherita 262, Rome: a very spacious and luminous flat, with a conference-room and a contemporary art library.
In this seat the foundation organizes meetings dedicated to the promotion of "conscious collecting", inviting gallerists, collectors, museum directors, critics and other professionals related to art collecting. Among them, we would like to remember the gallerists Valentina Bonomo, Alessandra Bonomo, Marina Covi Celli, Valentina Moncada and Lia Rumma , the collectors Bianca Attolico, Mario Croce, Nicoletta Fiorucci, Giovanni Giuliani, Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, the artists Patrick Tuttofuoco and Botto & Bruno, the critics Francesco Bonami , Cecilia Casorati, Laura Cherubini, Maria Luisa Frisa, Anna Mattirolo, Cristiana Perrella, Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, Maria Rosa Sossai, Marcello Smarrelli.
