 Already set up in 1991, the art association »Talstrasse« e.V. created a meeting place in a late-classical villa not far from the Burg Giebichenstein in Halle in 1994. A lot of art exhibitions, readings, conversation circles about art and politics take place there regularly. In general the programmatic bridge between history and present characterizes the work of the art association. It attaches value to the idea of contemporary art in its variety and its different tendencies. Regional references establish priorities as much as the ideas of national and international developments of art. Constantly the art association presents works of art by artistic personalities, whose biography shows certain points of contact to the region of Halle: People having lived or worked here or else having had a special relationship to this area. And so the association regularly is on their trails.

In the associations activity of exhibition thematic expositions are of special importance, just as the consideration of a special genre concerning the fine arts like carpets of pictures, architecture, glass or plastics. Younger artists also get involved in the programme. Often this is managed in close cooperation with art universities and galleries. On an additional platform, the STUDIO, smaller and more intimate exhibitions of works of art, above all devoting graphics and photography, find time and space.

Beside publications of single and group exhibitions since 1997 the art association has been publishing a brochure of regional art every quarter which informs about exhibitions and events of galleries, museums and art associations concerning the federal states Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.

The association counting more than 200 members at the moment is open to everybody interested in art and culture and respecting the constitution. A membership guarantees regular information about actual projects, invitations to private views, the possibility of purchasing annual gifts as well as the delivery of the brochure »Kunst in Mitteldeutschland« each quarter. Furthermore it allows its members free entry into all buildings of the Association of German Art »Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Kunstvereine« (AdKV). Since 1998 the art association »Talstrasse« e.V. has belonged to the AdKV.
