The Westphalian State Museum is one of the largest art and cultural history museums in North Rhine-Westphalia. It was founded over 100 years ago as a sign of civic engagement. Were co-founders of the Westphalian Art Association and the Association for History and Archaeology of Westphalia. Thus are the arts and the cultural history of Westphalia a special focus of the museum. Today, the National Museum a facility of the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe. The collections show 1000 years of Western culture from the Middle Ages to the present. Our exhibition and collection policy, the Westphalian art and cultural history in its European and international context. Especially in the major exhibitions of old and new art and cultural history with European participation, as in the since 1977 in every ten years held sculpture projects, shows the international profile of the house. We see our work as a contribution to the cultural identity of Westphalia in the Europe of the regions in the awareness that identity is constructed through the experience of their origin, history and cultural relations. At the same time contributes to the National Museum of the national and international influence in the region.
