The State Gallery Linz is the specialized scientific institution of the province of Upper Austria for modern and contemporary art.

An important goal of the State Gallery is it to promote qualified confrontation with modern and contemporary art. Toward this end an ongoing, internationally oriented exhibit program is carried out, whereby each project is accompanied by the publication of a scientific book.

> Collection
The collection of the State Gallery encompasses exemplary works of modern and contemporary art with reference to Upper Austria. It is continually updated and extended.

. Research and exhibition
Total exhibit area: 1500 m²

> Kubin Cabinet
Permanent exhibit with graphic art by Alfreds Kubin as well as works from his own art collection (Albrecht Dürer, Oskar Kokoschka, Honoré Daumier, etc.) from the holdings of the graphic art collection (manager: Mag. Monika Oberchristl).

> Special exhibits
The State Gallery organizes regular special exhibits on its own premises (the museum building at Museumstr. 14). These are conceived and organized almost exclusively by the institution itself, whereby the programme contains personnel and group exhibits as well as topical projects.

In addition the State Gallery functions as co-organizer of numerous national and international exhibits. International co-operation projects are at the focal point of programme planning. Regular regional projects are carried out with and in the Margret Bilger Gallery in Schlierbach and the Kubin House in Zwickledt, whereby mainly the support and presentation of regionally related contemporary art determines the exhibit programme here.

> Sculpture park
In the course of the past years in the gardens around the museum building, the installation of a sculpture park with various projects in public space has developed.

. Mediation
The State Gallery offers special mediation programmes for all age groups by the trained staff of the organisation Dream Workshop.
