The Leopold Collection is one of the world's finest collections of modern Austrian art.
The more than 5,000 exhibits collection was compiled by collector Rudolf and Elisabeth Leopold over five decades. In 1994 the collection was the Republic of Austria and the Austrian National Bank in the LEOPOLD MUSEUM PRIVATE FOUNDATION-using introduced.
The world's largest Egon Schiele collection
The Leopold Museum in the Museum Quarter, the world's largest Egon Schiele collection, together with major works by Gustav Klimt , Oskar Kokoschka , Richard Gerstl and Albin Egger-Lienz.
On display are further paintings and prints by Herbert Boeckel, Hans Böhler, Anton Faison, Anton Kolig, Alfred Kubin , and Wilhelm Thöny. These outstanding works from the 19th Century by Ferdinand Georg Wald Müller, Friedrich Gauermann, August Pettenkofen, Anton Romako, Emil Jakob Schindler, Carl Schuch, etc.
The Leopold collection also includes significant items of Austrian arts and crafts of the century by Otto Wagner, Adolf Loos, Josef Hoffmann , Koloman Moser and Dagobert Peche. Genuine items from Africa and Oceania as well as works of ancient Chinese and Japanese art complete the presentation.
