Profile

Established in 1974 with a show by Dan Flavin, the gallery?s international program focuses in contemporary art, new tendencies and photography.
Artists such as Jean-Michel Alberola , Marco Bagnoli , Bill Beckley , Alighiero Boetti, Lawrence Carroll , Robert Combas , Herbert Hamak , Rebecca Horn , Mel Ramos , Ed Ruscha, Remo Salvadori, Kenny Scharf , Ettore Spalletti , Felice Varini, Jan Vercruysse , Tom Wesselmann - to mention only a few - have worked directly with the Studio Trisorio.

The well known project The dog from Pompei by Allan McCollum was created in Naples in co-operation with the Gallery. From the outset the Studio Trisorio has also been interested in young artists and has always provided them with ample space.

In the 1970s, the Studio Trisorio was one of the first galleries to introduce photography with exhibitions by photographers including Bill Brandt, Mimmo Jodice, Jan Saudek, Helmut Newton, Luigi Ghirri , Gabriele Basilico, Ferdinando Scianna , Lucien Clergue and Martin Parr , while there have been large retrospective exhibitions of the works of Mario Giacomelli, Sebasti?o Salgado and Margaret Bourke-White.

The Studio Trisorio was a precursor in presenting an International Review of Video Art in the early 1980s which showed the first experiments in video art and included works by, among others, Nam June Paik, Bill Viola and Bruce Nauman. Since 1996 the gallery has also aimed to promote contemporary art through Artecinema, a Festival of documenta ry films on contemporary art which takes place every year in Naples and is widely acclaimed by both the general public and by art critics.

Aswell as providing exhibition space in the Gallery, from 1970 until the end ofthe 1980s, the Trisorio family provided major contemporary artists with a very special space in which to work, namely at Villa Orlandi in Anacapri.

Artists such as Cy Twombly, Jannis Kounellis, Joseph Beuys, Mario Merz, Sol LeWitt, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Luigi Ontani, Kenny Scharf , Cindy Sherman, Ettore Spalletti , Marco Bagnoli and many others stayed there for long periods. Plans are currently under way to publish the albums in which the sojourns of these artists were lavishly recorded.

The Studio Trisorio received public recognition for its thirty years of activity by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage which organised an exhibit entitled ?Le Carte dell?Arte? dedicated to the history of the gallery at the Campania Regional Archives in Naples.

In 2003, in conjunction with its thirtieth anniversary, the gallery opened a new gallery in the heart of Rome which has become a point of reference for contemporary art in the city.
