Our museum is a study of a place and its many peoples. Come face to face with a polar bear on the tundra. Look closely at carnivorous plants in a bog. Marvel at seabirds, sea mammals, all kinds of sea life. See how a remarkable mix of plants and animals found their niche here since the glaciers retreated. And meet the peoples who came from almost every direction to make their lives on the land and from the sea.
From the glaciers' retreat 12,000 years ago to contemporary life, the Museum tells the stories of Newfoundland and Labrador and its diverse peoples. Over a million natural history specimens and over a million artifacts bring these stories to life, connecting us with our past and the environment that has both shaped our experiences and been changed by our passage here.
Three floors of exhibit space give the Museum the capacity to interpret our past in may ways. There are permanent exhibits, temporary exhibits from the collections and traveling exhibits from around the world.
Connections, the Museum's permanent exhibit, introduces visitors to Newfoundland and Labrador, its natural life and the peoples who lived here from 9,000 years ago to 1730.
Fun, interactive exhibit components engage children in an exploration of the world around them. Other temporary exhibits focus on the cultural diversity of contemporary Newfoundland and Labrador.
