Walker Art Gallery is an excellent day out. As well as a stunning collection of paintings from the 13th century to the present, we also have a sculpture gallery, a craft and design gallery, and a space specially designed for children. And it is all FREE!
What to see in Walker Art Gallery
Ground floor
On your left as you enter is Big Art for Little Artis ts - a gallery specially designed for children up to 8 years of age. On your right is the sculpture gallery. Towards the back of the ground floor space is the entrance to the craft and design gallery.The cafe, shop, cloakroom, lift and toilets are also on the ground floor.
First floor
There are several galleries on the first floor. They cover art from the 13th century to the present day, from Old Masters to Pre-Raphaelite artists. You can see work by Rembrandt, Hockney, Holbein, Waterhouse, Poussin, Turner, Lowry, Rossetti, Lord Leighton, Rubens, Sickert, Hogarth, Reynolds, Gainsborough, Stubbs, Millais, Nash and Freud to name but a few. The space around the stairs is also used for displays and children's activities.
