The mission is indeed still the same, the Museum of Modern Art - Ludwig Foundation - MUMOK, its contents anyway, only marginal fall at first sight in the eye. Even during their relatively brief last station in the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden (2007-2010) she ruled with a gentle hand, as everybody expected from a member of one of the most powerfiul collector families in Germany. There were new faces, new discoveries that have been seen otherwise not presented so prominently. Unmistakable traces she has left no doubt.
At second glance, one has to know just what political waves caused the nomination of the "german" curator Karola Kraus, born Grässlin, as the new director of one of the most influential museums in Vienna. Well, even the one or the other new head has appearded in the group picture, right?
The face, the visibility and awareness in the international scene will change, no doubt - in a positive sense. As she has impressively demonstrated in previous stages of her career curator. In her time at the Kunstverein Braunschweig (1999 to 2006) Karola Kraus leveled this institution from regional relevance into the national and international art world. Who was shown in Braunschweig, will be succesful as an artist in some way, so the consensus at this time. Look for example at the artists list of "Braunschweig Parcours" (2004), curated by Karola Krauss: Cosima von Bonin , Tom Burr , Mark Dion , Isa Genzken , Jean-Michel Othoniel , Jorge Pardo , Tobias Rehberger , Pedro Reyes , Andreas Slominski , Ina Weber , Franz West , Joseph Zehrer.
This should also be true at the Museum of Modern Art - Ludwig Foundation - MUMOK in Vienna. It will be interesting to see.
