Initially she intended to study art; however the New Economy became more tempting. „The Internet, eCommerce, Mobile Business – this all was so exciting that I just had to study economics and business administration first“, remembers Ulrike Adler, “studying art had to wait.” However, after graduating from the university with a diploma in business administration and gaining practical experience in marketing with companies in New York and London her love for art won against pure rational thinking. Since 2003 Ulrike Adler is running her young and ambitious gallery with total commitment at Hanauer Landstrasse in Frankfurt am Main. Attached to the gallery in Frankfurt are project spaces, called „SubZONEs“, and there also is a branch in New York. Like her education, the program and the artists of the gallery are international. Seven nationalities are represented: Great Britain, Iceland, the USA, Finland, Poland, Germany and Switzerland as well as all media, with some focus on painting and video. And they are young, relatively unknown artists with whom Ulrike Adler and her gallery plans to grow. Already in 2006 she proved her feeling for quality when she organized the first solo exhibition outside his home country for Ragnar Kjartanson, this year representing Iceland at the Venice Biennale. As her present shooting star she sees painter Léopold Rabus from the French-speaking part of Switzerland. This autumn he is attracting attention with solo shows in important museums and institutions and by a Hatje Cantz publication. In order to discover new talent and to keep the gallery program lively, Ulrike Adler half of her time is travelling. For this year, due to time restrictions, she reduced her presence at art fairs somewhat, but next year activities will be increased again. „This is not only a question of money, but also of available time and staff“, says Adler, who recently hired her third employee. represented artists |
