The art scene for the first time took a intense look on the German video artist Anna Witt, since she was invited to participate at the Berlin Biennale 2010 with some work. Since then, the requests of international curators and exhibition organizers have increased steadily. This year alone, she was represented in seven group exhibitions from renowned institutions such as the art societies in Aachen and Graz and the Museum Ludwig in Cologne. In these days her solo show "Zivile Übernahme" has been launched in the Lothringer13, Städtische Kunsthalle München, still lasting to November 7th.
Anna Witt is represented by Galerie Michael Wiesehöfer, Cologne.
Profile:
Anna Witt's work is an attack on social and political populism. The actors have used their investigative video works, and we, the viewer inside gives it a sort of sudden spiritual freedom, a kind of activity, one with the intention or invitation, even to interfere with everyday life. Anna Witt discovered the gaps in our bureaucratized and supervised civil society. The offer and the demand for radical self-reflection and the resulting self-empowerment appear as its central theme.
Anna Witt shows in the Lothringer13, Städtische Kunsthalle München, a first overview of her recent work. Currently living in Vienna, the artist studied at art academies in Munich and Vienna. Her videos were to be seen at last in the Graz Art Association and at the 6th Berlin Biennial for contemporary art.
