Bernd & Hilla Becher - Profile

The photographer couple Bernd (1931-2007) and Hilla Becher (born 1934) is one of the most famous representatives of the German photography. Her work has been internationally by the Bechers typical black and white photographs of industrial sites known. The images document the monuments of industrial culture and submit to a fixed methodological rules, for example the recording of the object in different angles requires. Bernd and Hilla Becher photographed gasometers, grain silos, water towers and blast furnaces in both Germany and abroad, primarily the United States. Over the decades emerged as a typology of these structures, the eloquent testimony of a disappearing industrial culture. Bernd and Hilla Becher designated these structures as a "nomadic architecture" because the circumstances of capitalist processes are subject to and depending on the needs built or to be disposed of. The systematic documentation of the couple cups integrated their work in the 1970s in the discourse on Minimal and Concept Art and equally artistic documentary photography. Another important merit is the teaching Bernd Becher, Hilla Becher supported by the many important photographers years, including Andreas Gursky, Candida Höfer and Thomas Ruff. © ArtLogistics
