| Karl Hofer is one of the artists of the zero hour who were present after the Second World War with their images because they had continued partly abroad, partly in the inner emigration. Karl Hofer was an important example and guidance in a time of general uncertainty and disorientation. In many of his works are the faith and hope to feel at a time that the people would back the warmth of the sun can feel at one time, in view of the burgeoning youth again a decent future ahead of them would. Karl Hofer's graceful, young girls still in rest, their innocent sensuality is able to give comfort. His couples are sitting at the table, even if the sparse meal, their heads are lowered. Again and again he designed next to his allegorical still lifes and landscapes, the theme of the human pair, for as man and wife, as friends and as sisters: In the search of friendship, that man is to man a rest, lies the path.
